Energy and Appetite better thanks to Perrin says Galway ME patient
More energy and a better appetite are the first benefits of the Perrin Technique experienced by ME patient Rebecca from Galway. She began treatment at the Willows Clinic in July after ten years of horrendous health problems. Previously her life was full and busy: she worked long hours as a chef and any spare time was crammed with activities. But during 1999 her health began to deteriorate and this worsened when she finished work in December of that year: normally another job would be easy to come by, but she was just too ill to work.
“At first I thought it was just a bad stomach bug,” she says. “But the diarrhea got worse, not better, and the weight started to fall off me; I ended up bed-bound for two years. I could feel my body deteriorating, it was shocking. Even getting out of bed to have a shower would leave me exhausted, and I would have chronic pain in my muscles, my joints and my head.”
But Rebecca did not give up, even after nothing showed up on Gastroenterology Tests. She had been studying anatomy and physiology and started to adjust her diet. Very soon she found that her energy levels were improved a little by cutting out certain foods. But she still felt that she did not have a definitive answer, until a Dublin GP suggested that she might have ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis) and fibromyalgia. Then it all began to make sense. Following contact with the Irish M.E. Trust, she attended a talk on the Perrin Technique by Willows Clinic therapist Andrew Smith in July.
“After researching the Perrin Technique, I felt that it could work and so I started treatment at the Willows Clinic, with the help of my family, who are driving me to Dublin from Galway for my weekly visits. I'm still at the early stages of the treatment, but my energy levels have improved a little, and I'm able to tolerate a few more foods: eventually I hope to be eating a much wider variety. My cycle has also stabilised and I feel that the technique is enabling my body to rebalance itself. I know that it will take time to work, I know that I have to stick with the exercises and the healthy eating, but I'm feeling hopeful.”
The Perrin Technique is a manual system of diagnosis and treatment that has helped hundreds of patients with ME / CFS since 1989, with some patients reporting that their symptoms have completely gone. It was developed as a result of a chance discovery at the clinical practice of Manchester osteopath, Dr Raymond Perrin.
The Willows Clinic at 38 Oakwood Avenue, Glasnevin, Dublin 11, was established by Irene Scarff and Andrew Smith in 2006 to help clients to reach optimum health, by working with them on a physical, emotional & spiritual level. They have been in practice since 1992. Therapist Andy Smith has been trained and licensed to offer The Perrin Technique™ at The Willows Clinic.
